Hobbies for fathers are necessary to help them relax, enjoy and live their life again. If your kids are grown up, your hobbies can affect them positively as well! It can be an outing with hobbies and quality time between father and children as well.
8 Realistic Hobbies for Fathers
Creative hobbies, physical activities and freehand time with your children will definitely help your kids to be productive too! Following your hobbies can be a step to your journey towards a good father too!
Following is a list of some hobbies you can follow in your free time on weekends or with your kids in summers too!
1. Gardening with your Kid:
Do you have an interest in greenery? Do you like digging through the mud, putting seeds in and watering the soil? Do you find cutting old leaves of plants a joyful thing to do? And do you talk to your plants too?
If yes then gardening is the best choice for you. Nature helps to relieve stress and you can feel more relaxed and productive by touching the soil. If your kids are there, teach them about indoor plants, outdoor plants, the species and type of plants that grow differently. Do gardening in the backyard or lawn of your home, or you can also do that in the public park as well, ask your kids to plant each of their own names and keep watering them! They will love it when the first root, shoot and leaf follows!
2. Photography:
Photography is a skill that provokes the beauty of nature and surroundings. If you are a good photographer then grab your camera and plan a small trip to the nearest mountain range of the natural ecosystem. You can involve your kids in your job too! They will enjoy it with you. Teach them the basic angles and techniques about how to hold a camera and take aim to shoot. It can be a hobby with a teaching class too!
3. Drawing and Sketching:
This depends on your abilities. If you are artistic by nature, you will have the best feelings of catharsis while sketching and drawing. Kids of parents who are artistic inherit creativity as well! You can polish this skill or your child by allowing them to join, and observe your art too. Ask them to watch and draw beautiful patterns. The basic use of pen and sketching techniques will provoke their abilities of sketching and drawing!
4. Fishing:
It might appear a tough thing to do. Especially if you do not have a fishing pond near by you. If you have an experience of fishing, you can drive to the nearest locality where there are wishes. Usually water bodies near you. Take your fishing rod and kit and let your kids join you. Hobbies that involve outings should involve kids that are grown up. Usually of 10 or 11 years of age. Show them how to catch a fish and how to use the rod. It can be such an interactive session and you will enjoy it a lot. As a perk you will have a bucket full of fish for lunch too!!
5. Hiking and camping:
This is the best hobby for father and son to have quality time together outside home. Usually old English men would take their sons for hiking and camping to teach them masculine things, most probably, hunting, lighting fire and hiking the long distance! Boys of early or late teens need to go hiking with their fathers to enjoy and boost their relationship along with physical exertion.
Hiking can be a tiring thing to do so usually a weekend is the best thing for it. It is a man to man interaction, and it will let you understand what your son are good at. Men used to take Sons in older times to teach them lessons of bravery, grandeur, and other basic skills like archery, cooking and hunting.
6. Cooking and baking:
Who said men cannot cook or bake? Well you may enjoy cooking and baking a lot!
If you do not know the recipe, search it out or take help from women at your home.
You can call it a “mommy day off from cooking” too. Engage all your kids and make your favorite dish. It can be fun and relaxing together. If you do not have experience of cooking before, it can be more fun. Involving your kids in baking will just be the right thing to do. You will not only have quality time together, but your hobby will teach your kids some basic things like cooking too! Frying sardines, grilling steak, and fresh barbecue, who does not like it even as a hobby?
7. Book reading:
It is one of the most important and beautiful hobbies of all the hobbies. If you are, or were, a reader, you would have a complete knowledge of the authors and writers. Depending on your favourite genre, pick a book, grab a coffee and go to the part of your home that is relatively quiet and peaceful. You can go to the library too. If your kids want to join, tell them about the rules of book reading, how to start and suggest them beginner books as per their taste and gender!
Suggest them reading quality books and once they are done, discuss the book. Discussions are the best part of book reading.
8. Playing Ludo or chess together as a family;
One or the best games together is ludo!
Engage your whole family in and play the game. They not only boost up the minds but have a healthy competitive family time too. Help to teach your kids chess rules too. It will be the best pastime and you will enjoy it a lot!
