Narcissistic Sister
Narcissism is a psychological disorder that is associated with lifelong feelings of exaggerated behaviour including extreme self-importance and superiority complex. Narcissism, also known as narcissistic Personality Disorder, is adaptive change and usually females get it from their mothers. You can identify narcissism by several signs and symptoms. Children, especially daughters when brought up by narcissistic mothers can be identified by their behaviour as well. Parenting can become tough when your partner is a narcissistic one, and the problem becomes severe when anyone among your family is diagnosed with narcissism. Especially when your sibling is a narcissistic person, your life can be very tough and it is possible you might be having severe psychological malfunctioning as well!
When a sister is narcissistic, especially the elder one, it might be possible that you are emotionally drained and disturbed. If you feel like you are making it hard to be fair with such a sister, you should know how to treat such a sister. If your narcissistic sister is undiagnosed,it is more likely your parent’s attention is automatically shifted towards her. However, if it is diagnosed, it would be more troublesome because narcissists do not want to cure themselves even.
5 Signs which Shows your Sister is Narcissistic
1. Grandiosity:
Do you feel your sister is always boasting? She is always having a dominant role in the family matters and is offended when ignored even a bit? Grandiosity is the most important sign of narcissism. Your narcissistic sister is coarse and you all other siblings feel low when she is around.
2. Lack of Self Awareness:
What is your sister’s reaction when you or anyone among your family tell her flaws to her? It is more obvious when you or anyone among your family highlights the flaws, she hates it. Rather than accepting her flaws, if your sister starts shouting, or abusing all the siblings, it is more likely she is not allowing anyone, including herself to see her mistakes. This self-awareness is the leading symptom of narcissism.
3. Constant Need of Admiration:
Do you feel that your sister is continuously surrounding herself with people who admire her continuously? Either is it fake or real she loves being surrounded by people who are admiring her and you can see her ego boasting? That can be a very real symptom of narcissism.
4. Arrogance:
Women who are arrogant can be toxic or it can be a natural trait too in some humans. However, arrogance and superiority complex, the grandiosity and lack of self-awareness together contribute to be the leading cause of narcissism. This arrogance can be for beauty, achievements or just without any cause too.
5. Lack of Empathy:
Narcissists can be very brutal when it is up to empathy and sympathy. Never expect a narcissist to be kind or apologising!
Your sister is very hard and treats her siblings with much hate? That is right, consider yourself a sufferer for narcissism! Believe me you might not notice it before, but narcissists can be a complete trouble for family if it is left undiagnosed.
A Narcissistic Sister can Effect Family Dynamics
Well,if your sister is narcissistic, then it is more likely that your whole family is facing severe psychological suffering. Your sister might not accept it, neither do your family, but it is a complete havoc of emotions. Parents usually do not notice it at earlier stages of life, but later on, the severe effects can dominate the family a lot.
Here are 4 problems that can be a threat to a family’s peace and tranquility:
1. Dominating Daughter rarely let parents to make decisions:
When your parents are old enough, it is you, the children who make decisions for the family. You might have noticed your sister always intervening what parents have decided beforehand. Your sister might want to be always involved in all the decisions, either is it her own life plans or any other member of the family. This can bring problems within the family, when the remaining siblings do not agree with the decision. Narcissistic sisters hate it when their decisions or suggestions are neglected!
2. Your Parents shift their attention to your narcissistic sister:
Narcissists “demand” attention. Either it is from parents or friends, narcissists are always in a competition with their peers, siblings or friends for attention. It is more likely that your parent’s all attention, care and love is shifted to your sister only. This favouritism will water her plant of ego and extra self importance, and will deprive the remaining siblings with poor growth. Remember, favoritism from parents to one child, specifically narcissistic daughter can be like eutrophication i.e. depriving one and increasing the other to toxic levels!
3. Mental Disorders among siblings due to lack of attention:
It is more likely that this favouritism among children by your parents creates serious sibling rivalry among the children. While one sister is suffering from narcissistic personality disorder, it is more likely that remaining siblings suffer from disorders like borderline personality disorder, and bipolar disorder. This is because one was over-watered, and the remaining siblings are undernourished with love. This lack of attention at early life by parents can disturb the natural balance and you might hate your sister for getting very much love and care too!
4. Rivalry among siblings and hate:
Well, while siblings are meant for love and care, it is more likely that you all are siblings who are not enjoying the beauty of a family though!
The hate dwells since childhood. You all might not like your narcissistic sister, or wonder, “what is so special about her?” This creates serious rivalry since childhood. Even when you are grown up, you all might avoid meeting your narcissistic sister just because “she is too much”. This might provoke her hate for you all too. Narcissistic sisters already look low to their siblings. If a narcissistic sister has sisters, the feminine jealousy might provoke too, and who does not know the Cinderella sister’s hate then?
